Yoshimori's pretty 16-year-old neighbor and childhood friend, Tokine Yukimura, is also a kekkaishi, but their families are feuding over who is the true practitioner of the art. The tables finally turn when a classmate falls for Yoshimori.
Could it be that Tokine is actually.jealous? Then, family duty calls when Mom sends a dragon-a-gram and big brother Masamori assigns a task that can only lead to temptation.guard the entrance to a mysterious magical site with your life, but whatever you do-don't go inside yourself! Nice table turning there ^^. I loved the way that Misao really took care of her friend until finally the grown-ups found the two and only then did she break down in tears - I liked seeing Masamori's more tender side, especially si The end fight against the demon warrior and on Tokine's side against the mercenary twin brother brings Yoshimori to the realisation how hard it is to be the one who has to wait for news when your friend/beloved/comrade is in the enemy's fortress fighting for their life. Nice table turning there ^^. I loved the way that Misao really took care of her friend until finally the grown-ups found the two and only then did she break down in tears - I liked seeing Masamori's more tender side, especially since he has such a twisted relationship with Yoshimori. There's the dark turn that the next Shadow Council session takes in that we finally get some more of Masamori's viewpoint on both Shadow Council and Karasumori - where Yoshimori wants to seal, Masamori wants to destroy. As Yoshimori actually says in a scene two pages later, if Karasumori only wanted to let off steam against the demon warrior, he could have told Yoshimori and then he would have fulfilled its wish, because it's not as if he hated the place. We get another lovely comedy interlude with a maneating girl (whose virtue lies in the fact that she honestly believes her own delusions and does all the things she does out of utmost desire to be one with her beloved) whom Yoshimori can't get off his back.
It has the nice benefit of getting Tokine to see him in a slightly different light personally, to become a bit more aware of his outside growth and that it's understandable when a girl falls in love with him now. And then we get a dramatic one off in a meddling of Yoshimori's mother with Karasumori and a land deity water dragon, all for the good of both. We never get to see her full face and she vanishes as soon as she arrives, so this is even more fushigi mystery! This chapter also has the lovely role of showing the varying approaches Tokine and Yoshimori have towards visiting huge yokai ^^ AND we get a flashback to the time when Karasumori lived as a noble (in Heian era Japan, from the looks of it). And - as seems usual for this series - the next story starts in the last chapter with Yoshimori accepting a request of his brother's to help him watch a shrine, while Masanori enters the world of the land deity that the shrine leads to.
